On 26 January 2026, we had the pleasure of visiting BEFEB, the Belgian federation that connects escape room owners across the country. The event was hosted at the atmospheric Brouwerij en Stokerij Het Anker in Mechelen, and honestly, that location alone already made the day special. From the moment we walked in, we felt genuinely welcome. Everything was well organised, relaxed, and friendly, which made it very easy to start conversations.
What is BEFEB
BEFEB is a great example of how an industry organisation can really work. Belgium clearly has an active and involved escape room community, and that was noticeable throughout the entire event. Owners were open, curious, and eager to share experiences, both the successes and the frustrations that come with running escape rooms day in, day out.
We were especially grateful that we were invited to give a presentation. When we asked whether there was interest, the answer came back almost immediately and very positively. That alone already said a lot about the mindset within BEFEB: open to new ideas and genuinely interested in solutions that can make life easier for escape room owners.
The Presentation
During our presentation, we introduced Realix ERC as a complete escape room control solution, built from real-world experience. As former escape room owners ourselves, we deliberately kept the story practical. We explained how Realix brings software and hardware together into one system that is actually designed around how escape rooms work—covering puzzle flow, effects, audio, lighting, hardware control, and daily operation. No abstract promises, just concrete solutions to problems we’ve all run into at some point.
Next to the presentation, we also brought our Escape Room Showcase: a small, mobile escape room setup where everything actually runs. This turned out to be a great decision. Instead of just hearing about features, people could see them in action, push buttons, scan RFID tags, hear audio routing change, and immediately relate it to their own rooms. It sparked a lot of spontaneous conversations and very specific questions.
RFID and Audio
There were two topics that clearly stood out during the demos. One was our RFID reader. This is a subject that almost every escape room owner has a story about—and usually not a good one. It was confirmed several times what we already know from our own experience: a solid RFID solution takes away a huge amount of hassle. No more struggling with Arduino setups, unreliable reads, or ridiculously long cables just to get something working. Seeing a clean, integrated RFID solution immediately resonated with many people in the room.
The other big eye-opener was our audio system. Centralised audio is something many escape rooms still piece together over time, often ending up with complex setups that are hard to manage. Showing that you can run all audio from one system, freely route multiple players to different outputs, and control it all visually, led to a lot of nodding heads. For many, it was one of those “why isn’t this done like this everywhere?” moments.
Guesthouse Escape Poperinge
It was also great to share that one of the BEFEB members is already using Realix in production: Guesthouse Escape Poperinge. Having a fellow escape room owner already working with the system made the conversations even more concrete and relatable.
All in all, our visit to BEFEB was a very positive experience. The atmosphere was open and informal, the questions were sharp and practical, and the interest felt genuine. We’re thankful for the warm welcome, the invitation to present, and all the valuable conversations we had that day.
A big thank you to BEFEB and its members for having us, we’re already looking forward to what comes next.
